PUBG Mobile Esports Unveils Revamped Point System for 2023 Tournaments

The creators of PUBG Mobile, Tencent and Krafton, have recently announced a new point system for the 2023 esports season of the game. This new system aims to enhance competition by changing the way teams play the game, forcing them to adjust their strategies as a result of the new matrix. The new point system comes as the 2022 season came to an end on January 8 with the conclusion of the PMGC Finals.

The new point system, which will be used in the 2023 season, is a 10-point system which has been used in PUBG PC championships for a long time. In the beginning of the 2022 season, Tencent introduced it in regional tournaments in China that are connected to the mobile version of the game. However, the scoring system used in Chinese competitions and the one established recently differ in a few ways, as there are 15 teams competing in national competitions instead of 16.

With the new point system, the value of placement points has decreased, leading teams to focus on kill-based strategies in order to score more points in competitions. The winning team of the Chicken Dinner will now receive only five points instead of 15 points as it used to be. And instead of 12, six points will be given to the second-place finisher and five to the third.

The first regional competitions will kick off the 2023 season of PUBG Mobile, which will contain the new regulation. Tencent and Krafton have not yet made the schedule for the game's spring competitions public.

This new point system is not the first that Tencent has created since the launch of PUBG Mobile. The winning team got 500 points in 2018 and the first few months of 2019, while the runner-up and third-place teams received 365 and 315 points, respectively. Each kill was worth 15-20 points at the time. The publishers eventually employed the 30 and 20-point systems, which rewarded one point for each kill.

Tencent implemented the 15-point system in the middle of 2020 (during PMPL S2), and it was utilised until the tournament ended in 2022. Krafton and Tencent developed the innovative way to raise the level of competition in PUBG Mobile esports. This new point system will change the way teams play the game and make the competition even more exciting. It will be interesting to see how teams adapt to the new system and who comes out on top in the 2023 season.
